The IRP Network Hits 1 Year Mark.

The IRP Network News.
The IRP Network News.

A little over a year ago, Remedy and Muse decided to join the IRP Network servers and the GrenadeInMouth servers to provide a stable IRC environment for the two domain's users. A year later, that goal has been met but not without some downs along with the ups.

There's been plenty of false starts, lots of re-doing channels and registrations and the founding users will recall that even a whole server (irc.irc-roleplay.com) had to be abandoned because of its utterly incompetent and lame host.

Other challenges included DDOS attacks (amongst other troubles) on another Host's servers which kept irc.irc-roleplay.net off-line for months. Also, an assortment of drama and situations that tried the patience and friendships of the user base as well as some connectivity problems presented the most common low spots.

Even still, it was all overcome with flying colors by the great folks who make up the staff and user base of the IRP Network and GrenadeInMouth. The results are that a year later the network is a stable, reliable, friendly venue that offers the tools to support role-players and their games. It's found its place and those within have settled into a comfort zone that is growing as familiar as a well-worn pair of jeans.

Now it's just a matter of continuing the good work and seeing what will be made of these offerings--the possibilities only limited by the individual's imagination, creativity, motivation and enthusiasm.

Another bit of the year's background history is that some of the user base came here, leaving behind some really horrible experiences on other servers. Coming here meant coming to irc.irc-roleplay.org (or net) where was offered a nice, pleasant and safe IRC role-play environment. And even though most still frequent the larger RP servers for game variety and a broader player base, this little IRP Network is always a great place to escape the chaos and annoyances that larger IRC server's user bases can present--to just kick back and play in peace.

The forums have been used for different forms of Role-play support; from individuals using it for their own files and archives to providing a common point of reference for chronicle happenings and updates. From Character portraits to logs of role-play, again the limitations are up to the individual. With as much space as is provided, an entire play-by-post chronicle could be easily done sans IRC on the forum boards, if one so wished. AND IT'S ALL FREE!

The goal is the same today, a year later, as it was on day one. To provide an IRC network (and other tools) dedicated to role players and their games/chronicles.

Here's to a challenging, but overall, great start!
